Swapping an exercise your gym can't do
When a routine calls for equipment that isn't on your gym's list, the active workout offers a stand-in for today — same sets, reps and rest, just a lift you can actually do — without touching the routine or any target.
What this does
A one-line banner sits above the set, before you start the exercise. It names a substitute chosen from lifts that train the same thing, weighted toward what you've actually logged before, so the starting weight isn't a guess. The offer only appears while nothing is logged on the original exercise yet; it never interrupts an exercise you've already started.
Step by step
- Tap the banner to see the list of substitutes and pick one. Not now keeps the original exercise and carries on as planned.
- On a superset, the swap covers the whole pair as one block: the banner walks you through a pick for each station your gym can't do, and any station it can do stays exactly as it is — same lift, same numbers, moved into the rebuilt pair. Nothing about the alternation changes.
- The superset offer only shows before you log the first set of either station, because the pair can't be rewired mid-round. Once you've started, a station going missing is a Defer (moves the whole pair to the end of the queue) or an edit on the routine.
Good to know
A swap never moves a target. The original exercise holds, exactly as if you'd skipped it, and the substitute is logged to your history without advancing anything on its own — it's a stand-in for today, not a program change. To make a swap permanent, use ⇄ Substitute (or Group ⧉) on the routine itself. If the banner keeps offering swaps for equipment you do have, your gym's equipment list is wrong — update it in Settings.
